Digital Fashion Design

Course duration: 75 contact hours

Students will learn Adobe Illustrator to create fashion illustrations and technical flats, build a library of colors, surface designs, and stitches, and develop colorways. They will also design a multi-page line sheet and merchandise board showcasing their work.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Utilize Adobe Illustrator to accurately translate fashion concepts into digital drawings.
- Create precise and industry-standard technical flats of garment.
- Develop a comprehensive digital library of colors for consistent application across designs.
- Generate a diverse range of digital surface designs and patterns.
- Construct a digital library of commonly used stitches.
- Integrate their digital color, surface design, and stitch libraries into their fashion looks and technical flats.
- Develop multiple colorways.
- Design and lay out a professional multi-page line sheet document showcasing their fashion designs.
- Create a visually compelling digital merchandise board.
- Produce industry-ready digital fashion presentations suitable for portfolio development.
Color for Fashion Design

An introduction to color theory, covering its principles, applications in design, emotional and symbolic meanings, color relationships, and trends. Includes color mixing (additive and subtractive), fabric printing, and the intersection of science and art in color use.

Fashion Textile

This course will introduce students to the role of textile and fabric within the garment industry. Topics covered will include: the role of textiles in fashion; the different materials, fibers and yarns; conceptualizing a collection of fabrics for a target market; and sourcing fabrics with consideration for fabric properties and characteristics. Students will gain experience in understanding textile productions regulations and communicating effectively with textile suppliers.
