NYSD welcomes international applicants like you who are eager to launch fashion education and career.  As an ICE approved institution, NYSD can issue the I-20 form for your M-1 visa application for these programs:

Step 4 :

Receive Offer Letter and submit financial documents for I-20.

Step 5 :

Schedule visa interview and pay the I-90 SEVIS Fee.

Step 6 :

Visa Interview / Obtain an M-1 visa from your local US Consulate.

Step 7 :

Arrival – Present all documents required for M-1 student status at the U.S. port of entry no more than 30 days before the Program start date. 

Step 8 :

Student must report to NYSD, attend orientation, and register for class.

Additional Details

1. International Student

At NYSD, we consider you an international student if you meet both of these criteria:

  • You are not a citizen of the United States.
  • You do not hold a U.S. Permanent Resident Green Card.

This means that most international students will need to obtain an M-1 Student Visa to study at our institution. However, if you’re unsure about your status, please feel free to contact us for further clarification.

2. Your Education Records

To ensure a smooth application process, please submit your official high school transcript and  (optionally) your college transcripts. Here are the options:

  • Direct Delivery: Have your school electronically send your transcript directly to our Admissions Office. This is the preferred method.
  • Sealed Submission: If your school cannot send electronically, ask them to mail the transcripts in a sealed envelope to: New York School of Design, Admissions Office, 1032 Avenue of the Americas, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10018.
  • Certified Copy: If original copies are unavailable, you can submit a certified copy of your transcript issued by your school or relevant authority.

Remember:

  • Regardless of the submission method, the transcript must be official and contain your original grades and graduation date.
  • If your transcript is not in English, please provide a certified translation alongside it.

3. Proof of Financial Support

To study on an M-1 visa, you must demonstrate your ability to cover the annual costs of attending NYSD. What to submit:
  1. Affidavit of Financial Support (Sponsorship Support Confirmation): This form allows you to disclose your financial resources and sponsors, if applicable.
  2. Financial Documents: Provide documents confirming your access to sufficient funds for your entire year of study. Accepted documents include:
  • Savings statements: Current (dated within the past 6 months) with your name and account balance clearly visible.
  • Checking account statements: Current (dated within 6 months to the start of your program at NYSD) with your name and account balance clearly visible.
  • These statements must be certified by your banker with the bank’s stamp and their officer’s signature.
All documents must be:
  • In English: If your documents are not in English, please provide certified translations.
  • Scanned as PDFs: Upload your documents with your online application. Each document should be less than 50 MB in size.

4. Passport Copy Requirements

To complete your application, all international students must submit a photocopy of the data page from your current, valid passport. This page typically contains your photo, name, date of birth, passport number, and nationality.

Important note:

If your passport is not in English, you must also submit a notarized English translation of the data page. This means you need to provide both the original document in your language and the official English translation. You can upload scanned copies of both your passport data page and the English translation (if needed) with your online application.

5. English Language Requirements

At NYSD, all classes are conducted in English. To ensure your success in our program, we require evidence of your English proficiency. Here are ways to demonstrate your skills:

  1. a) Standardized Tests: Achieve a minimum score on:
  • TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 50
  • IELTS Academic: Minimum score of 5.0
  • British Council English Score (CEFR) Test: Minimum of the B1 Boundary
  • Other equivalent English exams offered by your government.
  1. Previous English-Medium Education
  2. Other Recognized Qualifications approved by the NYSD School Director.

We accept tests taken within the past 2 years.

If your official test score report is delayed, you may submit an unofficial copy for initial application review.
